Protection Method Based on Wavelet Entropy for MMC-HVDC Overhead Transmission Lines

Recent technological developments in modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) transmission systems have shown significant advantages over the traditional HVDC and two-level voltage source converter (VSC) systems. However, there are a lack of studies on protection methods for MMC-HVDC overhead lines where method should be able to provide fast accurate response identify lightning strikes. In this paper, wavelet entropy-based is proposed. Due capability revealing time–frequency distribution features, proposed combines entropy characteristics different faults. Simulation results show that can accurately quickly determine types faults or disturbances with appropriate noise tolerance. addition, impact ground resistor fault distance performance studied.
